8:30AM -9:00AM Welcome and induction of Honorary Witnesses

Honorary Witnesses to be inducted, are Buffy Sainte-Marie, Singer (in absentia) and; Pablo de Greiff, UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence.

Following the inductions, honorary witnesses will participate in a public, guided conversation, moderated by the Right Honourable Joe Clark, who will explore the importance, potential and promise of reconciliation as it relates to each of the Honorary Witness’s respective fields.

Facilitated by members of the TRC Indian Residential School Survivors Committee (IRSSC), Sharing Circles enable Survivors, their family members, former staff and anyone else affected by the residential schools to share their truth with others in a public setting. Health Supports will be available.

Those wishing to share their experiences with the TRC in a private and confidential setting can do so. The Private Statement Gathering Area has individual rooms where private statements may be video or audio recorded.

Many organizations who have had important roles in the Truth and Reconciliation journey will have information booths for those who wish to learn more about how these organizations contributed. As the TRC winds down, other organizations will step up to lead us forward in reconciliation. The International Centre for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) will share with us the work it has been doing with youth.

We will also hear from the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR), the mandated national organization created out of a requirement of the TRC through the Settlement Agreement. The NCTR and its growing number of partners and stakeholders will present how it intends to move reconciliation forward and to support the implementation of TRC recommendations.
