Each of the seven flames in the circle of the
TRC's logo represents one of the Seven Sacred Teachings - Truth, Humility, Honesty, Wisdom, Respect, Courage and Love.
When is the walk?
The Walk for Reconciliation will take place on Sunday, May 31, 2015.
When does the walk start?
The opening program for the Walk begins at 11:00 am and the Walk itself begins at 12:00 pm.
Where does the walk start?
The Walk will start at the École Secondaire de l’Île (255 rue Saint-Rédempteur, Gatineau, QC).
How long is the walk?
The Walk is approximately 4.7 km.
Where does the walk end?
The Walk will end at Marion Dewar Plaza (Ottawa City Hall - 110 Laurier Ave. West)
What happens after the walk?
There will be a closing program beginning at 2:00 pm at Marion Dewar Plaza, followed by entertainment featuring some of Canada’s prominent and upcoming Aboriginal artists from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
What if I'm not Aboriginal? Can I attend too?
The Walk is for all Canadians. This is an opportunity to learn from each other and build relationships.
Is there a shorter walk I can join?
Yes. A shorter walk will start at Victoria Island. Participants will join the longer Walk at approximately 1:00 pm on the Portage Bridge. Meet on Victoria Island by 12:00 pm if you plan to join the Walk there.
What is the route?
Leaving from Saint-Rédempteur; left on des Allumetières; right on Maisonneuve, over Portage Bridge, left on Wellington; right on Elgin and left on Laurier W.
Is parking going to be available?
Yes. Parking will be available at on downtown Ottawa or at the Robert Guertin Arena (next to the École Secondaire de l’Île). Parking will also be available at the Domtar site on the northwest side of the Portage Bridge.
Will there be shuttle bus service?
Yes. There will be a shuttle service leaving downtown Ottawa taking participants to the start of the Walk and one also running at the end of the Walk. Details on shuttle bus service will be confirmed shortly.
Can I join the walk at any point along the route?
Yes. People are encouraged to join the Walk at any point.
Will there be entertainment after the Walk?
Yes. At the end of the Walk we will hear from dignitaries and public figures, followed by performances by Amanda Rhéaume, Elisapie Isaac and Digging Roots.
Is there a cost to participate?
No. Participation is free including the entertainment. All are welcome

Will there be food and beverage at the start?
You will be able to purchase refreshments at the start of the Walk at the École secondaire de l'Île. Proceeds will go in support of the school's athletic and other programs. We encourage you to bring snacks for yourself and others, to share!
